The DNC is looking out West to Phoenix, Arizona
for the 2016 Democratic National Convention

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is looking out West towards Phoenix, AZ, for their 2016 convention.

Fox 10 News Phoenix reported that Phoenix is in the top 5 to host the convention. The other four cities in the running are New York, Philadelphia, Columbus, OH, and Birmingham, AL.

According to Fox 10 News Phoenix, Gov. Jan Brewer and Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton are trying to woo the Democrats to bring the convention to Phoenix.

Fox 10 News Phoenix quoted Stanton as saying, “It is an opportunity to show how great our city is, what a great place we are to visit.”

Arizona is a Republican state and the last Democrat to win the state was former President Bill Clinton.

It is expected that Hillary Clinton will run and be the Democrats 2016 Presidential Nominee. So there is a possibility that she could grab some of former President Clinton’s magic and win the state.

President Obama lost the state in 2008 and 2012. However, he won the bordering states of Nevada and Colorado, which tend to vote Republican during the Presidential race.

If the Democrats are able to hold Nevada, Colorado, and pick up Arizona, it could change the 2016 Presidential map and make the road to the White House easier.

Since 1968, the presidential candidate who’s won at least two of the three states out of Arizona, Nevada, and Colorado has gone on to become the president of the United States.
